Zoellner Arts Center welcomes back the Vega String Quartet with two performances in Baker Hall. The first show is a cabaret performance on January 23 which allows patrons to sit on stage while enjoying dinner or refreshments on-stage. The cabaret dinner begins at 6pm with $62 tickets. Following the dinner, there will be two performances, first at 7pm, and second at 9pm with a $25 ticket. On January 25 the group returns for an afternoon recital titled Four Generations with a $12 ticket. Both performances are held in Baker Hall.
The cabaret repertoire includes Mendelssohn, Ravel and Puccini. The repertoire for the afternoon recital includes: Schoenberg, Ode to Napoleon Bonaparte; Kim, Where Grief Slumbers with soprano; Salerni, String Quartet No. 2; D’Ambrosio ’97, alumni compositions.
Quartet in Residence at Emory University, the Vega String Quartet is on the cutting edge of the new generation of chamber music ensembles. After their Lincoln Center debut in 2001, the New York Times raved about their “playing that had a kind of clean intoxication to it, pulling the listener along…the musicians took real risks in their music making…” and the Los Angeles Times praised their “triumphant L.A. debut”.
They tour throughout Asia, Europe and North America and have performed in Brussels, Cologne, London, Mexico City, Paris, Seoul, Tokyo and Vancouver. In New York, the Vega String Quartet has appeared at Weill Hall and Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall, and on the Bargemusic Series; in London at Duke Hall at the Royal Academy of Music. The quartet is a frequent guest at numerous music festivals in Aspen, Brevard, Highlands-Cashiers, Kingston, Mostly Mozart, Musicorda, Rockport, San Miguel de Allende and SummerFest La Jolla. They have been the quartet-in-residence at the Van Cliburn Institute, on the artist roster of Carnegie Hall’s New York City Neighborhood Concert series, and were the only string quartet on the Community Concerts Association roster.
