General Information about the Concert Series Concerts are held in the beautiful, shady amphitheatre style Sculpture Garden just east of City Hall. The concerts are held rain or shine. Rain location is in the City HALL Rotunda, next door. The concerts are held Friday evenings from 6-8 pm in June and July and are FREE TO THE PUBLIC! These concerts have rapidly become a favorite start to a summer weekend. “Folks bring lawn-chairs or blankets and picnic suppers. One couple even brought their own table, flowers and candles one year!” says Tim Fox, co-chair of the Concert Committee for the Bethlehem Fine Arts Commission. “We love seeing families sharing this time together,” adds Mary Wright, former co-chair. “There’s one family that has come each year and we’ve seen their son go from taking his first steps to reading Harry Potter books.” The Bethlehem Fine Arts Commission was founded in 1963. Ever since, we have worked to bring quality art events to the Lehigh Valley. From our annual Tribute to the Arts Luncheon and the Downtown Fine Art & Craft Show in May, to the Summer Concert Series in the Sculpture Garden, to our year-round juried art shows in the Rotunda, our goal is to bring the arts to the community. The sculpture works [in the garden] are either commissioned, purchased after completion, or received as gifts. Pieces are continually being added to the growing repertoire of works by well-known, respected sculptors such as Rudy Ackerman, Harry Bertoia, Antonio Salemme, Tim Considine, Renzo Fazzioli and more. With the City’s generous help, the Commission spends time every spring and summer planting perennials, trimming back overgrown shrubs, and readying the garden for the growing season. The Sculpture Garden is a great place to sit under the trees while you dine on a bag lunch and enjoy the surroundings. Sponsorships are available. Basic sponsorship for the concert series starts at $100. The Sculpture Garden Concert Series was sponsored in part by the PA Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of PA and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. And by generous donations from Fox Optical and the Bethlehem Historic District Association.
