Some of our readers may be aware of the dance class opportunities at Lehigh for students who are interested in keeping up their ballet or jazz form. Or maybe, just maybe, you might wish to acquire a new skill or try something completely different as one of your New Year’s resolutions. Actually, these dance courses are for all community residents, faculty, staff, families, and all part-time and full-time students from any school.
Lehigh’s Athletic and Recreation programs have offered dance programs for a number of years. Laura Hausmann has been teaching ballet and jazz classes on Tuesday evenings, offering a variety of classes in the top floor of the Taylor Gymnasium. Who is Laura Hausmann? She is internationally known as a versatile dancer, teacher, and choreographer. She has danced throughout the US and on every continent, except Australia. Some of the companies she has performed with are: Radio City Music Hall Ballet Co., Boston Ballet, Anna Sokolow Repertoire, Broadway, television, MTV videos, and performances at the Kennedy Center and Lincoln Center. Laura has served as an Assistant Professor in the Dance Major Program at New York University for 23 years. She has taught professionals in China, Russia, and Panama. As a guest of the US State Department Cultural Exchange Program, Laura has performed throughout Africa, Europe, and the Mid-East. Her choreography was seen Off-Broadway in the production of Jean Cocteau’s The Human Voice. As a teacher of teachers, Laura has taught teachers and students from all major dance organizations throughout the US. She has received the President’s Award for Teaching in the Performing Arts. She’s won a considerable number of awards and dance commissions.
