“Comedies don’t come any blacker than “The Pillowman,” the spellbinding stunner of a play by Martin McDonagh…The laughs…are the kind that trail into gulps and gasps…Yet for all its darkness of plot and imagery, “The Pillowman” – which won the Olivier Award in London for best new play…dazzles with a brightness now largely absent from Broadway… What “The Pillowman” is about, above all, is storytelling and the thrilling narrative potential of theater itself.” —Ben Brantly, The New York Times

Death brings people together. So when the much beloved and much feared Sister Rose passes away, those students whose lives she touched, return to the old East Harlem neighborhood to pay their respects.
