December 7, 2011 – last week of the semester and all is well

Don’t let the warm temperatures fool you. It’s definitely the holiday season in Bethlehem, PA. Lehigh University’s music department pulls out all the stops with two performances each of the Philharmonic Orchestra and the Choral Arts Vespers programs. Each program offers a great opportunity to rekindle a sense of goodwill toward mankind. See below for details.

While we ready ourselves for the last classes, projects, and finals of a rigorous semester, there are plenty of chances to experience the many ways Bethlehem celebrates our “Christmas City” pride. Here are a few resources to keep in mind if you find yourself a few moments spare in the next couple of weeks:
The Christmas City website
The Downtown Bethlehem Association website
Christkidlmarkt website (new location at Steelstacks!)

In case you missed last Friday’s twitter stream, ArtsLehigh posted pictures of the student-designed products for sale at Home and Planet. And while you’re at it – friend us here, or follow us there. We’ll keep you up to date on the creative happenings on campus and close by.

We’ve said it before, but it’s definitely worth repeating: every time you buy a local product or service, an angel gets their wings. Many of those wings are touched by Gold Card Plus. (Other means of payment are also accepted by “Joseph” – name that holiday classic movie reference)

In addition to the stores, and cultural events, new ideas for celebrating the city’s heritage keeping popping up. Last October, a cultural organization partnered with a local restaurant to celebrate one of the cultures of Bethlehem’s heritage. The South Bethlehem Historical Society and Starters Riverport presented ‘Hungarian Nights’ a traditional ethnic Hungarian dinner experience featuring Beef Goulash, Chicken Paprikash, Stuffed Peppers, Dobosh Torte, Strudel, Kiffles and more. A local blogger documented her dining experiences here; pictures included. The idea was such a success, that the restaurant has decided to continue the menu options in the month of December. Funds raised will benefit the South Bethlehem Historical Society‘s educational and preservation programming. What better way to support educational programming than through a great meal?

We at ArtsLehigh wish all students, faculty and staff good health and strength during the next week. Rest when you can, cough into your sleeve, and wash your hands regularly.
